Creating a Christ-Centered Vision Board

Updated: Sep 7

Seeking God’s Will for Your Life

At the end of the day, all of us want the same thing: to know that we’re living in the center of God’s will. We want our lives to matter—not just in the eyes of the world, but in the eyes of our Father.

One way to pause and refocus on what really matters is by making a vision board. Now, vision boards can sometimes feel like something you see on Pinterest or a “manifest your dream life” kind of thing. But when you do it with Christ at the center, it becomes more than just cutting out pretty pictures—it’s a way of saying, “Lord, I want my dreams to line up with Yours.”

Living to Bring Glory to God

At the core of everything we do—whether it’s setting goals, making plans, or creating a vision board—our purpose is to glorify God. That means our dreams aren’t just about us; they’re about how our lives can point others to Him.

Paul reminds us:

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Think about it this way:

  • In your work — finishing a project with excellence isn’t just about impressing your boss; it’s a way to show integrity and reflect God’s character.

  • In your family — making time for your kids or spouse isn’t just a nice gesture; it shows God’s love and faithfulness in action.

  • In your finances — choosing generosity over selfishness isn’t just about giving money away; it demonstrates trust in God as your provider.

  • In your health — exercising or eating better isn’t only about looking good; it’s about caring for the body God gave you so you can serve Him well.

When our everyday choices bring glory to God, even the smallest things—like making dinner, paying bills, or encouraging a friend—become part of His bigger story.

What’s a Vision Board, Really?

Think of it like this: a vision board is a collage of your hopes, goals, and reminders of where you feel God is leading you. It might have words, pictures, or verses—anything that inspires you to keep moving toward the life He’s called you to.

For some, that might mean a photo of a Bible and journal to remind them to spend more time in God’s Word. For others, maybe it’s a picture of a cozy home, not just because you want a house, but because you long to create a space where family and friends can feel God’s peace.

It’s not about saying, “This is what I want, God—make it happen.” It’s about saying, “Lord, shape my heart. Show me what to pursue.”

When Our Vision Gets Self-Centered

The tricky part is this: vision boards can easily turn into “wish lists” for ourselves. We start filling them with luxury cars, dream vacations, and material success. And while none of those things are bad on their own, they can become idols if they’re all we focus on.

Paul warned the church in Corinth about the danger of being caught up in selfish desires:

"For you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?" — 1 Corinthians 3:3

It’s not too different today. Our culture screams, “Chase more, do more, show off more.” And if we’re not careful, our vision boards start reflecting the world’s voice instead of God’s.

Inviting the Holy Spirit into Your Dreams

Here’s the beautiful part: you don’t have to figure this out alone. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth.

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." — John 14:26

So before you cut out a single picture, pause. Pray. Ask: “Holy Spirit, what do You want me to focus on in this season?”

It could be as simple as sensing that God wants you to slow down, spend more intentional time with your kids, or finally take that step toward serving in your church.

And if you’re unsure, remember this promise:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." — James 1:5

He’s not stingy with wisdom—He delights in giving it.

Letting Scripture Shape Your Vision

Your board should be more than just images—it should be anchored in God’s Word. Verses are powerful reminders when your heart starts drifting.

For example, if your board includes career growth, anchor it with:

"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men." — Colossians 3:23

If you’re dreaming about your future, remember:

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." — Jeremiah 29:11

The verses keep your heart steady, reminding you that success isn’t about applause—it’s about obedience.

What About Material Things?

It’s okay to have practical desires. Maybe you need a car that actually runs. Maybe you’re praying for financial stability so you can provide for your family. God cares about those things, too.

God Promises to Provide

"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:19
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." — Matthew 6:33

He knows what you need before you even ask.

Motives Matter

"You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures." — James 4:3

So when you put that house or car on your board, check your heart: “Do I want this to glorify me, or could this help me glorify God?”

God Loves to Bless His Children

"If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? … how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" — Luke 11:11–13

Think of the joy you feel when you give your kids or loved ones something they’ve been hoping for. God’s heart is the same—except even more generous and loving.

True Contentment Is in Christ

"Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content… I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." — Philippians 4:11–13

A new car, a bigger house, a better job—they can make life easier, yes. But real contentment? That only comes from Christ.

A Final Word

Friend, creating a vision board isn’t about pasting pretty goals and saying, “This is my dream life.” It’s about quieting your heart before God and saying, “Lord, I want what You want. Shape my vision so it looks like Yours.”

When Christ is at the center, your board won’t just be about vacations, careers, or milestones—it’ll point to eternal things. Service. Love. Obedience. Hope.

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." — Jeremiah 29:11

So grab your scissors, your magazines, your printer, or your digital tools—but first, grab your Bible and invite the Holy Spirit in. That’s where the real vision begins.

Prayer For The Journey

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the reminder that my life is not about me but about You. Whatever I do—whether at work, at home, with my family, or even in my dreams and goals—help me to do it all for Your glory.

Holy Spirit, guide me as I create my vision. Show me how each desire and plan can point others back to Jesus. Help me not to chase after things just for myself but to see how You can use them to bless others and build Your kingdom.

Lord, teach me to trust You with both my needs and my dreams. When I long for material things, help me to ask with the right heart. When I face seasons of lack, remind me that my true contentment is in Christ.

Above all, may my life, my choices, and even my vision board reflect this truth: that everything I do is to honor You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
